I tackled my long run on Friday. I was only scheduled to do 10 miles but two running friends had to do 11 so we pressed on. It was one TOUGH run! There was a wind advisory and by the time we went out at 11 am it didn't matter which way you turned, that stinking wind was right in your face.
It was a complete deja vu of when I was training for my marathon last fall. We had to do our 20 mile run in the same type of wind. So although my friends struggled, I knew that I could do it because it was "only" 11. We did a 9:58 pace which I didn't think it was all that bad, but that wind has to count for 30 seconds per mile :)
I have been doing the running drills before I run. My hips were getting really tight from the drills which was turning into a sore low back. I did a yoga class on Friday which helped tremendously.
Still working on the form (the hand are getting much easier now) and the lean. I found the lean very beneficial but hard to consistently maintain especially during speedwork or 20 mile winds :)
Keep pressing on GRF peeps!!
Awesome long run! You are definitely on your way to breaking your PR for the 1/2. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteNice job pushing through that windy long run! And this is a reminder to all of you... make sure you are stretching! Stretching and strengthening are equally important!!! :) Especially the more miles you put in, and the stronger you get through the drills, remembering to keep those muscles loose and happy is critical! I know it's sometimes hard to find time to stretch...it is for me as well. Be creative though, and do the best you can!
